I'm writing a scifi book series. i will post descriptions and poorly drawn depictions of characters.
BTW dont give me llamas, random favorites, or random watches unless you actually like what i'm posting.
The hovado are one of the races introduced in the first book. They are crustaceans (im not going to lie, they are heavily based on the fallout 3 mirelurks) They stand around 8 feet tall and can weigh up to 500 pounds. Their shell varies in color, the most common is a light orange or brown. males have a larger plated shell on their back while females have a thinner but more flexible shell on their backs. this shell is very hard and hard to crack open without some kind of tool (but it is not unheard of for aliens being strong enough to break it with brute force alone.) their weak spots in the shell are the thinner parts along their joints and digits. All hovado have a noticeable under-bite and blue blood.
Hovado are very aggressive in nature, any anger is dealt with usually with physical assault of something. Intelligence wise, they are average at best. hovado only learn something when they think it will be useful to them. This does not mean they are underdeveloped. Their society has narrowly avoided War-ing themselves back to the stone age, mostly due to aliens contacting them.
Many hovado that go off-planet are given drugs to help lower their aggression. but many find jobs as mercenaries, enforcers, anywhere that needs rage and muscle. Many hovado do not seek political power, they believe that is a privilege for only the smartest of their kind. But this eventually led to harsh regulation of any hovado leaders since the rest of the galaxy was tired of the conflicts they would cause.
The Otihat are an unpleasant race to say the least. their one meter tall body is covered in a short but thick coat of fur and their head is featureless save for a pair of antlers that have grown into something resembling a helmet and a mouth. they have hooflike hands and feet as well. but the only interesting thing about their bodies is their head. inside is a special organ that allows them to perceive the world around them in a complete 360 degree area. things beyond this view are seen as “blurry” to them. scientists are unsure how exactly the organ works, since it can even see things that are invisible or hidden inside objects. but they have discovered that electricity will temporarily “blind” an otihat, which is something they fear immensely.
they are widely hated or barely tolerated by all races, even the normally friendly gudrians. this is because they are all selfish to the highest degree. they dont care who or how many get hurt by their actions, if they benefit from it then they will try. despite their selfish nature, they do often form groups since individually they’re about as threatening as an angry child.
they are barely even considered a society since they most advanced thing they have ever made is a spearlike gun (made from scavenged alien technology since there is no way they ever could have made energy weapons on their own.) despite being weak and prone to breaking/exploding. they insist that this is the best weapon that ever will exist and using any other kind of weapon is just stupid.
The Geomin are a race of spiderlike aliens. they are covered in a tough exoskeleton that can range from various shades of brown and grey. their exposed soft flesh is a dark yellow color. they have two sets of arms, one pair hangs down to their ankles while the other is much smaller and is located on their chest. their legs split into two pairs of legs at the second joint. the males and females are indistinguishable aside from voice.
despite their unsettling appearance to arachnophobes. as a species they are quite friendly and are usually cooperative with the other races. unlike traditional spiders, they cannot spin webs and are not poisonous. although fossil records seem to indicate that they were at one point. their torso contains only the heart and stomach, their abdomen contains their lungs, digestive tract, and other vital organs.
so in my most recent book, i had a scene where Gerai meets a cavol tribe leader. (the cavol are a race of aliens who reverted to a tribal-like society after they were nearly wiped out by a virus they made. they refuse to develop more technology out of fear of repeating the disaster.)
This leader is a young female who was appointed leader simply because she was unfit to hunt or do most kinds of labor, but was shown to be a good leader. unlike the more commonly seen cavol hunters, the leaders wear handmade masks to use with their culture’s tradition of not revealing your face to anyone but the one you love. hers is carved from wood. she is also not given the camouflage robes the hunters have since she would never need it.
i really like this character and i want to include them in future books. i think i’ll name them: Radalv Idalm, head of the Iksdamon tribe.
